Weekly Trends For You

Each week we post current produce trends to keep you up-to-date on production and seasonal conditions as well as current commodity availability.

Produce Trends - May 2, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on May 2, 2022 1:00:00 AM

LEMON

Lemon supply is expected to remain strong for another six weeks or so before starting to reduce. You can expect a gap in supply from the end of June through July. We recommend purchasing now if you have the ability to buy in bulk while prices are good and then freeze to last you through the gap. The Mexican season will get started at the end of July or early August. Reach out to your rep now if you are interested in locking in contract pricing for the Fall. See Lemon availability.

ORANGE

California Navels are finishing up now and will transition to Valencias over the next few weeks. Valencias will then be available out of Mexico and California for about a month. Mexican organic Valencias will end the first week of June, while conventional will be available through the last week of June. See Orange availability.

GINGER

The ginger market is still tight as we are in the low season with limited availability. You can expect availability to pick up in July. Out of Miami, supplies are tightening as less product has been shipped out of Peru, and prices are expected to rise. There is Mexican product available on The Marketplace, but it will need about a 7-day lead time. There is also product from Peru available, organic and conventional, that requires at least a 3-week lead time for large volumes. See Ginger availability.

Produce Trends - April 18, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Apr 18, 2022 1:00:00 AM

Celery

Celery availability is strong out of Oxnard and Santa Maria, with supplies exceeding demand at this time. Production in Yuma has finished, but suppliers continue to transfer products to the Salinas area for a transfer fee if needed. The celery quality is above average, even with the high temperatures. Expect good supplies to continue throughout this week. See Celery availability.

Orange

There is a steady supply of Mexican Valencias loading in Nogales, AZ. The Organic season was initially estimated to end in April but is likely going through mid-May. The Conventional season will last until late June. The California Valencia season will ramp up at the end of this month and will last through the early Fall. California navel supplies are limited at this time as many growers wrap up their season. If you need Navels, we recommend getting orders placed ASAP before pricing continues to rise and supplies become even more limited. See Orange availability.

Turmeric

Turmeric availability out of Mexico is steady at this time. However, Hawaiian Turmeric supplies are limited with higher pricing as we are in the planting season, and there is less labor available for harvesting product. You can find organic Turmeric from Fiji and Hawaii posted on The Marketplace now; be aware that there is a 7-day lead time required for the Fijian product. See Turmeric availability.

Produce Trends - April 4, 2022

CARROT

We are seeing high demand on all types of carrots - organic and conventional out of the US and Canada. Supply out of Mexico is mostly conventional, and it has been light due to an unusually wet winter. We expect Mexican supply to increase as the season ramps up in April. Organic supply should improve in May when additional supply comes online as the California growing region transitions. See Carrot availability.

GINGER

Ginger supply is still tight across the board as we are in the low season for availability. Supplies should increase in July. You can expect availability out of Miami to tighten even more as less product has been shipped out of Peru and prices are expected to rise. Lead time is on the higher side to aggregate full truck load quantities. See Ginger availability.

ORANGE

Demand and pricing have strengthened this week on both conventional and organic Valencias out of Mexico. Harvests and packing are back to a regular schedule, resulting in steady supply. The organic season was originally estimated to end in April, but is now likely going through mid-May. The Conventional season will last until late June. You can expect California Valencias to start in mid-May or June and run through Sept. or Oct. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - March 28, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Mar 28, 2022 12:49:14 PM

CAULIFLOWER

Cauliflower supplies continue to be limited. The cooler weather has slowed growth in the Yuma area. Organic Cauliflower is experiencing inconsistent production, which is creating limited supply and price increases expected to last for the remainder of the month. Supplies are expected to remain limited until the new northern crop production ramps up in April. See Cauliflower availability.

LETTUCE

Markets are extremely light for all leafy greens like iceberg and romaine at this time. The growing region is transitioning from Arizona to California, and you can expect markets to remain volatile for the next 2-3 weeks as the new region gets going. See Lettuce availability.

ORANGE

California Navels will likely wrap up early this year in June, following the season last year lasting through mid-August. Typically, we see shorter seasons following longer ones due to the trees being tired and not having the energy to produce as much fruit. Demand remains steady across US Markets. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - March 21, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Mar 21, 2022 12:19:04 AM

CABBAGE

Growers are reporting steady to lighter supplies of red and green cabbage as we get past the increased demand on St. Patrick’s Day. You can expect a small gap between the desert volume winding down at the end of March and northern Salinas supply coming online in April. For Napa Cabbage, Yuma growers are reporting heavy supplies for now. Napa will transition to Salinas starting at the beginning of April with moderate supply and lighter weights expected then. You can expect supply on all cabbages to start to lighten up at the end of March due to the transition from Yuma to Salinas. The Salinas season will go through mid-November. See Cabbage availability.

CARROT

Demand is still high on all types of organic and conventional carrots. Mexico's supply is primarily conventional, crossing through McAllen, TX. With the Canadian season over, demand for Mexican product is higher. Supply should remain light until the season ramps up in April. We expect organic carrots to remain tight until May when more suppliers come back online. See Carrot availability.

ORANGE

Mexican Valencia supply is steady for fancy and juice fruit, with limited choice grade available. The season was originally estimated to end in April, but is now likely going through mid-May. Peak sizes are 72/88ct with a limited volume of 113/138ct available. California Valencias will start in mid-May/June and run through Sept./Oct. California Navel supply out of the central valley & southern coastal regions is steady now but will start winding down as we head into April. Demand for Organic Navels has diminished in the last two weeks, causing growers to slow their harvests. We expect the season to last through April. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - March 7, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Mar 7, 2022 7:31:50 AM

Ginger

This is the low season for ginger, with limited availability across the board. There is some supply available of Peruvian and Mexican ginger needing at least a 1-3 week lead time. You can expect the market to continue to be tight until the Summer, when availability and pricing should improve. See Ginger availability.

Grapefruit

Out of California, conventional and organic grapefruit supply should remain steady for the next 6 - 8 weeks. The Mexican season is winding down and will finish up by the middle of March before starting up again in September. California is peaking on smaller sizes, while Mexico is peaking on larger-sized fruit. With the Mexican season close to over, you can expect California supply to tighten and prices to increase. See Grapefruit availability.

Orange

Mexican growers have fully transitioned into true Valencias. The fresh market demand has been very slow for the last three weeks on both Conventional & Organics, causing growers to slow down harvests until pricing and demand improve. The Mexican season was originally estimated to end in April but is now likely to last through mid-May due to the harvest slowing down. California Navel supply out of the Central Valley & Southern Coastal regions is steady for both organic and conventional product. However, we expect availability to start diminishing as we approach the end of March and the beginning of April. The season will finish by the 2nd week of April. The crop is expected to end earlier than usual due to an industry-wide crop shortage this year. Normally, the California Navel supply will last until June. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - February 14, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Feb 14, 2022 2:32:00 PM

orange

Orange supply out of Mexico has nearly completed the transition into true Valencias from the early variety, Hamlins. Growers are reporting good yields on fancy and choice-grade fruit. However, we expect a limited volume of juice grade fruit available for the next few weeks. Average Brix is 10 to 11.5 and acid is 1 to 1.2, varying per field. Head to the Marketplace for current availability of Mexican Valencias, as well as California Navels. See Orange availability.

ginger

Carrot supplies remain tight, with demand outpacing supply for the most part. Jumbos on the West coast are especially tight, but there is some steady supply out of Mexico. We expect this volatility to continue for at least the remainder of February. See Ginger availability.

carrot

Overall, the organic carrot market remains limited at this time with some suppliers gapping and Mexico producing mainly conventional product. We do have some Nantes available on The Marketplace out of California while supplies last. Conventional carrots are primarily coming out of Mexico, loading in McAllen, TX. See Carrot availability.

Produce Trends - January 31, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Jan 28, 2022 2:51:38 PM

CARROTS

Organic carrot supply is still super tight. There is conventional product available out of Mexico with solid pricing, though. The supply limitations are typical this time of year but have been exacerbated due to labor shortages and low organic yields. You can expect the gap on organic product to continue for the next 4 weeks or so. Head to the Marketplace for up-to-date availability. See Carrot availability.

Broccoli & Cauliflower

The broccoli market is lower this week. Supplies from Mexico are volatile, but availability out of AZ and CA is improving and should be enough to cover demand. Cauliflower market pricing has also started to come down as supplies increase. We were experiencing a gap in the market for the last 2 weeks in January, but we are seeing more supply come online now and expect that to continue through February. See Broccoli and Cauliflower availability.

Orange & Mandarin

Orange supplies are somewhat light and are expected to remain that way for the remainder of the season. According to a new report from The Packer, “California citrus groves look remarkably different than they did last year, when a record crop weighed down mandarin trees and navel oranges stayed on trees late into the summer months due to shipping issues at congested ports.” We expect to see lighter and shorter seasons for Navels and Mandarins due to a combination of drought, water, and rising cost issues. We expect the season to last through May for Navels and June for Mandarins. See Orange and Mandarin availability.

Produce Trends - January 24, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Jan 20, 2022 3:22:00 PM

CARROTS

Multiple growers report high demand and limited supply of conventional and organic carrots. Rising Omicron cases have exacerbated ongoing labor shortages. Many suppliers find it challenging to find the labor force to pack existing contracts, forcing delayed orders and cancellations. In addition, we are seeing a low supply of chunks & plugs due to a lower yield of jumbos this winter. Out of Mexico, supply is limited on organic carrots, but there is some conventional available. Head to the Marketplace for current availability. See Carrot availability.

LIME

The lime market is up this week. Market pricing has been trending upwards due to low yields from recent weather. Medium and small sizes (200 count to 230 count) continue to have the highest volume of availability. See Lime availability.

Orange

The orange market has been trending up lately due to limited labor, but supplies are expected to improve this week. Navels are peaking on the smaller 72 count, 88 count, and 56 count fruits. The Kern County growing region has supplied most of the small-sized navels this season. Once harvesting in Kern County is finished in the next two weeks, we expect a limited supply of small oranges for the remainder of the season. See Orange availability.

Broccoli & Cauliflower

Freezing temperatures in the Arizona and California desert growing regions have slowed down the broccoli and cauliflower harvests. We are seeing limited supplies and increased pricing overall. Mexican supply loading out of Texas is also expected to tighten as demand shifts away from the desert. See Broccoli & Cauliflower availability.

Lettuce

The Yuma growing region has experienced freezing night-time temperatures, causing morning ice and harvest delays. Iceberg and Romaine lettuce fields have been affected and are showing blister and peel. We expect this quality issue to also result in shorter shelf life on Processed/Value Added lettuce packs. See Lettuce availability.

Orange

True Valencias will start out of Mexico at the end of the month. The early season product you are seeing now are Hamlins. Out of California, supply is stronger on the larger fruit peaking at 56 / 72 ct. Overall, product remains tight though due to recent rains delaying the harvest. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - January 10, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Jan 10, 2022 2:27:00 PM

Broccoli & Cauliflower

Weather has not been favorable for broccoli and cauliflower supply. Warm weather out of Yuma for the first six weeks of the season pushed the cauliflower crop ahead of schedule by 2-3 weeks. This means the crop that was supposed to be harvested now was actually harvested 2 weeks ago, and there is limited supply out on the fresh market. Now, the weather is cool and icy. We expect a 2-3 week gap on Cauliflower. Broccoli has not been as affected, but rain recently has caused some damage to the crop.
See Broccoli & Cauliflower availability.

Lemon

Mexico is officially done with their lemon season. California is in full swing with Desert fruit, and we expect supply to be strong for another month. Small fruit is very limited, because rain last month increased the size of the crop. The new year has caused price increases across the board for growers in labor, packaging, and freight costs. See Lemon availability.

Orange

Mexican Valencias are tight after the new year with higher pricing over the last week. We expect availability to improve this week. True Valencias should start at the end of the month (1/25). Sizing is currently peaking in the 113ct-138ct range. Pricing is up this week for California Navels due to heavy rains at the end of December. Overall, we are seeing steady supply on Fancy, Choice, and Juice grade. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - January 4, 2022

Posted by Full Harvest on Jan 4, 2022 2:25:00 PM

Broccoli

Broccoli supplies continue to be tight, meaning pricing also continues to be on the higher side. We anticipate pricing to come down, but recent cold weather could delay this. You can find organic and conventional product on the Marketplace now. See Broccoli availability.

Cauliflower

The Cauliflower market is steady with supply available out of Mexico, Santa Maria, CA, and Yuma, AZ. We anticipate pricing to start to increase given the recent cold weather in the growing regions. See Cauliflower availability.

Oranges

Navel supplies are tight. California experienced rain that limited the harvest. This caused an increased demand for Mexican fruit, resulting in higher pricing. We anticipate demand overall will pick up to start the new year. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - December 28, 2021

Posted by Full Harvest on Dec 28, 2021 2:21:00 PM

Broccoli

The broccoli market is volatile. We don’t expect to see it steady off for another 2-3 weeks due to various challenges. Both commodity and value-added (florets) products could be impacted. Quality is still mostly good. See Broccoli availability.

Lemons

Lemon supplies out of California are good, with solid availability from both the desert and the valley regions. Quality is strong. Some of the very large fruit is getting fairly tight, but we anticipate more supply coming online in the coming weeks. Mexico is finishing up its lemon supply - weather problems caused the season to end early. See Lemon availability.

Oranges

Orange supplies are very light due to recent rains delaying the harvest. The majority of fruit is fancy grade and size is peaking on 88ct. 56ct and larger fruits are limited right now. See Orange availability.

Produce Trends - December 13, 2021

Posted by Full Harvest on Dec 13, 2021 1:58:00 PM

Broccoli & Cauliflower

Yuma AZ, is expecting freezing weather temperatures in the mornings starting this week. These temps will reduce availability and could cause increased pricing on cauliflower and broccoli. Oxnard, CA is also expecting freezing temps and rain this week. We still have some solid pricing and availability on The Marketplace now, so we recommend getting in orders ASAP before the weather reduces supply. See Broccoli and Cauliflower availability.

Oranges

Conventional and organic early Valencias are in full swing! We have product available out of Nogales. Brix levels vary per grower but are generally 10.5 - 11.5 right now. Sizing is peaking in the 113ct - 138ct range. Conventional and organic Navel oranges out of California are also in full swing. The quality is solid, and there is choice and juice grade available. Brix levels are 11 - 12 currently. Sizes are peaking at 88ct, 72ct, and 113ct. See Orange availability.

Grapefruit

Mexican organic grapefruit is in full swing now with plenty of product available. Growers are peaking on larger-sized fruit. We also have a grower with weekly load volume of CV juicer product from now through February that is open for contracting. California organic grapefruit supply is steady. See Grapefruit availability.
